CHILD ACTORS OF THE DIFFERENT DECADES

The pressures of being a child actor are large. The competition for children’s roles in television is heated and the unnatural, constantly alternating approbation and rejection that comes with auditioning would trip up people with the emotional maturity of someone much older than these kids. [1]

These might seem like Hollywood horror stories but the television industry in Singapore is not immune from problems of this nature. Competition for roles in a particular show in 1988 saw hopefuls that numbered more than a thousand at a time when the total number of child actors working in the media industry numbered approximately 200.[2]

We feature some Singaporean child actors that have lived through these experiences and see where they are at presently. These are some examples of child actors that have found success and balance in their lives.
